Statement

 

The Spirit of Place inspires my work, and I am fascinated by mark making and the versatility of oil paint.

 

Working on location in a landscape, I try to assimilate the essence of my subject.  Then, through drawing in charcoal, I uncover particular shapes, rhythms and marks.   Subsequently I use paint on canvas to reinvent and develop my understanding of the subject.

 

My work is figurative, but not representational
